Can you get in trouble for attempted shoplifting in Florida if you never took anything out of the store?

I was at a store in Florida and switched the price tags of some clothes ( i know it is wrong). I didn't end up buying any of the items that I switched the tags on, however the clerk at the counter did notice the price changes as i was leaving and commented that security was reviewing the tapes to see what had happened to the original prices. Now, if I never left the store can they still look at the cameras and charge me with attempted shoplifting at a later date?? I DID NOT TAKE ANYTHING!!

Shoplifting has more meanings than to not pay for an item and walk out of the store with it. If you conceal an item, whether on your person or somewhere else in the store with the intention of coming back to retrieve (steal) that item, you can be charged with shoplifting. The intentional swapping of price tags and paying for the lower amount is also considered shoplifting.

Price swapping is a theft. The person has deceived the store by switching the prices so that they won't have to pay the full amount for that item. So they are stealing the amount of the difference between the two items.

If your state law does not specifically state that you have to purchase the item with swapped prices, then they can call the police and have you charged for shoplifting. If the law does state that a purchase has to be made, then the most the store can do is ban you from coming back.
