I have recently ordered a pair of high power (minus + astigmatism) high index bifocals. The optician I am working with had given me a quote on the lenses several months prior to my placing the order. When I came back several months later to place the order, I asked the optician about any changes in cost. She said that the lab that she uses did raise their prices. When, right before placing the order, I asked her to give me an exact quote, she simply said that she would honor the original quote and that she would give me the best price she could. When the glasses arrived, the price tag (and this is just for the lenses!) was $600 as opposed $400, which was originally quoted. Furthermore, I feel that one of the lenses is not centered perfectly because the dispersion and limited visual acuity (due to high index) is greater when I slightly turn my head to the left than when I turn it to the right. To be able to see clearly, I basically have to look at the object straight. I have a comparable pair of high index glasses (same power), and I don't have this problem when I wear them. I have brought up the difference in cost and the abnormally limited visual field on one side with the optician. Her response was:
1. She will not take the glasses back under any circumstances because they were custom made and her own costs were very high (I understand her costs were around $200).
2. She is willing to cut the price down the original quote only if I take them as is and walk away.
3. If she has to send them back for a remake or any adjustments, she will charge me the full $600.
I am obviously not happy with the price-quality combination of the product. I have tried to find a compromise. I offered to cover her entire expenses related to the glasses if I could return them and get some of my $ back. I suggested exchanging the glasses for a pair of contacts (which would be cheaper and I would be at loss anyway). The optician would not even consider any of those option.
Bottom line: I pay $600 if any changes need to be made to the glasses, or I pay $400 and walk away with the product I am not happy with and not sure I can wear.
I am trying to work this out in an amiable way because the optician, supposedly, is the best in town at fitting gas perms, which I would like to get.
On the other hand, if I am being taken advantage of, I would like to know so that I won't sink another $400 on the contacts (yes, her quote for gas perms, including the contacts cost and labor was $400).
I would appreciate any feedback/advice, especially from other opticians who are familiar with the intricacies of the trade. Thank you!

Remember, when we were kids how our parents wouldn't let us have dessert until finished with our main course. It made us even that much more eager to get to our dessert.

Mac Tiger or Mac Leopard?
I am considering getting Mac book installed with Tiger. A lot of ppl are recommending waiting for Leopard release in october. but considering how stable Tiger is (10.4.9), Leopard when it comes out, it will take few months until its fully updated and fully stable.
and the offer for college students this summer (free ipod with mac book purchase), it looks like mac book with tiger is a catch. am also worried that when leopard comes out, the price of Mac books will go higher.
i also read that aside from the new 64-bit platform of leopard (tiger is 32), all other new features of leopard are just added user friendliness to Tiger and not real massive scale change to it.
so my question is, shall i buy a strong stable OS with a free ipod nano and a good price offer, or wait for a new - more friendly but not so stable- OS, later this year with a price tag that *might* be higher?

Apple doesn't hike the price of their hardware when the OS is updated. They just sell their hardware with the newer OS as soon as it's ready. My gut tells me you'll want to buy now during the free iPod giveaway. Tiger, 10.4.9 is a nice and stable release, and will continue to be a good OS, even after Leopard comes out. It'll be years before you'll have to have 10.5 to run any application. There are still lots of apps that list 10.2, Jaguar as their minimum OS. Leopard will do lots of cool new things, not the least of which is the use of ZFS, but you can always buy the new OS after it's come out and they've had a chance to resolve some of the bugs that are inevitable with any software release. Get a good case for that nano!

In fiscal 2009 the federal government spent $3.52 trillion -- $2.8 trillion in 2000 dollars, which sets a benchmark for comparison. That fiscal year covered the last three-and-a-half months of George W. Bush's term and the first eight-and-a-half months of Obama's.
That price tag came with a $1.4 trillion deficit, nearly $1 trillion more than last year. The overall budget was about a half-trillion more than Bush's for 2008, his final full fiscal year in office.

I read that article this morning and was curious, so I went to peakoil.com to find out more. I came to the site with an open mind, but after reading the forums.... Let's just say that our survivalists are nothing more than white supremists. They complain about mixing races, this and that, plus they think that anyone who doesn't think like them is a %26quot;lower lifeform%26quot; or an %26quot;animal%26quot;, so seeing so many idiots who believe in this theory completely discredits it for me.

We knew for a long time we need alternatives. however for some reason. the governments haven't pushed for programs to develop these alternatives! I heard it was because oil is considered to be a stabilizing element to the worlds economy. And if it was suddenly less valuable there could be global turmoil! However the odds are that when we have shortages and eventually none there will be turmoil too!
The oil crisis has brought a lot of poverty, people knows now that our economy is going down the drain, and the cost of living is soaring up, and food is not cheep as it was,and every one is scared to buy any thing, Money is worthless ,and every one get busted with no money ,and have to stay like that until the their check is due ,
Why the panic? Because gasoline will be costing us $6 - $7 gallon, and that is probably sooner than later. Can you afford that? I can't...

How do you get access to surveillance evidence?
If you are accussed of a crime and a store claims to have you on tape, how do you get access to view tha tape bofore appearing in court without a lawyer? My friend was accussed of changing the tag on a item in a store that cost $6 and the tag when he checked out said $3.99, the cops were called and he was issued a citation to appear in court. the tape was never viewed while he was there. the cops told him that he had to admit to it on the spot or he would be arrested, he had his two kids with him so he said yes. He knows he didnt do it, and would like to view the tape before going to court.

Is hip hop going through major changes ?
I've been on this forum about 1 month straight seeing different questions and answers, the majority of time being serious about my thoughts on replies and kidding on others to try to get my score up. Hip hop has indured major changes in the last 5-10 years and it is evident in everyone's eyes that it has taken it's toll on society. People have to keep in mind that hip hop is based on freedom of speech and it come's with a hefty price tag that can anger the feelings of certain individuals. I respect everyone's opinion on who they like because it's evident that certain artist or groups has touched them in such a way that I might not understand so who am I to judge or downplay there love for someone. Believe it or not hip hop is the head of the pyramid and runs down like a family tree being all under one umberella, Rakim is hip hop, T.I. is hip hop, and even Soulja boy is hip hop, so you ask how's that. I find it amazing that when the people realize that they dont want the health care package that Obama is trying to cram down our throats Obama sends out his goons to the town hall meetings and now we hear of people being assaulted to the point of having to go to the hospital. Second, did the president of the United states go in front of the cameras yesterday and tell us, the people he is supposed to represent to shut up and get out of the way? Pretty arrogant if you ask me. Third how about the 500 million dollar price tag on that new fleet of private jets paid for by the American people for Congress. With the cheaper franchises such as Rajasthan Royals and Kings Xi performing well while more expensive ones like the Royal Challengers and Deccan Chargers, how will things change next season? Surely the more expensive players such as $1.35m Andrew Symonds can't justify their price tag while players like $100,000 Sohail Tanvir have performed brillianntly.

Should I change my major?
I am a freshman, going into my second semester of college. Currently I am a music education and performance major. I love music so much, and have always enjoyed playing the flute. It comes naturally to me, and I have a lot of scholarship money from it. My parents even bought me a professional model flute (I'm talking into 6 digit price tag) because of the potential everyone sees in me. I also really enjoy teaching, and my past band directors and flute teachers seem to think it'd be a great job for me and that I'd enjoy it and be good at it. And..I really think I could. I know I'd enjoy it, and be happy. I'd be able to live comfortably, although probably not luxuriously, which is fine with me. It seems like the perfect thing for me to do, and I've always said I want to go on and get my Ph.D at some point, etc etc.
But..now I'm not sure if this is really what I want to do. Since I started getting good at the flute, I've just thought I'd keep doing it through college and throughout my life. I hadn't ever considered anything else. But recently, I've had a couple of people tell me I'd make a great nurse. The other day at church, I was almost in tears because they were talking about a mission trip and how these Dr.'s and nurses had helped all these people. I've been keeping up with a few little cancer patients %26amp; their journeys..and I've always loved kids.
So..now I'm wondering if I should change my major. At the school I'm at, you're admitted into the nursing program after 2 years of getting core requirements, and I know if I changed know I could easily be on track if I took a couple of summer classes, because of credits I've brought in from high school. But at the same time...I wonder if this is just a whim..idk. I love music so much, and could really see myself happy in that field. But I also want to help people, make a difference in peoples lives..and nursing is in such a high demand right now. I think working in a pediatric oncology unit like at a children's hospital or St. Judes would be neat..idk.
I guess I'm looking for some advice on where to go from here..has anyone experienced this before, wanting to change majors so fast? I feel bad because my parents have put so much money into my flute playing, and I know I have talent and potential. But..I guess I'm not feeling as excited about it as I once was.

Think about it this way - you can always be a nurse and be a musician on the side, even get paid to be one for a symphony, but you can't be a musician and do medicine as a hobby (not legally anyway).

It's totally natural for you to doubt your major. So many people do. I'm not even in college yet so I can't give you sound advice on this but the first answerer had a point, you could possibly pull off nursing as your career and music on the side. and medicine pays more. But you KNOW you love music, and you THINK you'd love helping others and looking after patients. Try going into medicine, or find out more about nursing. Do some research. If it seems right for you, try it. If it ends up not being what you thought it would be, start over with music. (But don't ever give music up entirely - it's your passion.) It's probably not best to jump around schools like that, but these decisions affect the rest of your life. It's scary, but it's true. So good luck, and I hope you make the right choice!

I heard for some time now that the government was thinking about getting rid of pennies. I imagine that it would not be very easy to convert the entire economy. At least overnight.
I think the bigger question is this.... when I visited Germany 5 years ago, everything I bought had the sales tax included! So, if I bought a burger, it would be 1.95, not 1.95 plus tax. This is what we need to do, because I'm sick of buying things for 99 cents and it turns out to be 1.06

I looked at bridesmaid dress size 6 and prom dress size 6, and the results are not very encouraging. If you search for these dresses, you will see many saying sizes 6-16. These come from China and will not sell well in the United States. But other dresses are not selling for much money either.
I am sorry for the bad news, but you may have to lower your starting fee. It would also help to have a brighter photo to show buyers what the dress looks like. Maybe you could take a picture of the dress outdoors.

Photography?
My neice is an apiring photographer. She wants a camera that you can change out the lens like the 35 mm camera, but she also sees the benefits of having a digital camera. Is there a camera that can do both?
What would be the best camera to buy her for christmas? Now she's just a junior in high school, so we aren't talking professional camera with a professional price tag. Is there a camera possibly $500 or below that would work for her needs? I would definatly prefer as much under $500 as possible so i could do it alone, but if need be my brother and i could go intogether and go up to $500 or so.
Buying used is also an option, or ebay. However since we have no photography experience, we have no clue the price range, or the type of camera to look for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Like they said. your looking for a digital slr. these are interchangeable lens cameras. although the jump from point-and-shoot to SLR(single lens reflex, fancy for you see what your lens sees) is not cheap. I use all Canon and in my opinion you cant beat it. this may change from person to person. The thing is that when you buy a certain brand of SLR(canon, nikon, olympous, ect.) you need to stick with it because these lenses are not interchangeable. Ex. if you buy a canon body, a nikon lens will not work. this is why i choose canon, they are the leader in camera lenses. as far as cameras go i would consider the older canon digital rebel XT. you can get it off amazon right now for around $530. That also includes a kit lens which will get you started. Thats also the absolute cheapest brand new SLR i know of. I wouldnt get into used slr unless your buying from a trusted place or individual. this is because slr's have something called a sensor that is exposed to dust every time you take off the lense. if you buy from someone who didnt clean the sensor you will have massive dust build-up that you will have to either clean or replace. I would recomment buying online, amazon is very reliable. that is where i bought mine. I hope your neice decides to move up into the slr range of cameras, its uncompareable to point-and-shoot.

OK, I'm not sure of the prices in US dollars so I'll just give you a list of the best cameras out there. OK. these cameras are Digital SLR's. You change the lenses and take high quality images. I think the Nikon brand is the best. The nikon D200 is the camera I'd recommend but that might break your budget. The D80 is the next camera I'd recommend then the D40x and then the D40. I'd also recommend that you buy it in a shop new. Then you can get it cleaned and looked after. Then lens that comes with the camera should do fine. I included a link below.
Now some people will recommended getting a canon. They are just as good but are not as good value.
What you're looking for is an entry-level digital SLR. Find a camera store and tell them exactly what you're looking for and they will show you what's available. I'm not sure what a Nikon D40 sells for, but it's a nice sturdy entry-level Nikon. Canon would be another good brand. There are cheaper brands, but you get what you pay for, and Nikon and Canon are the best.

She's a junior in high school. I don't know how much experience she has in photography, but I'm wondering if she would be better off getting a regular digital camera. Point-and-shoot cameras today come with a lot of the bells and whistles previously only available on higher-end cameras. On my camera, which I purchased for $250 three years ago, I can use a number of manual settings as well as letting the camera take care of the details. Also, digital cameras still seem to be updating quickly. They now have higher resolution and better optical zoom capacities.
Just my thoughts. I hope she enjoys whatever you get for her.

What would be the best camera to buy her for christmas? Now she's just a junior in high school, so we aren't talking professional camera with a professional price tag. Is there a camera possibly $500 or below that would work for her needs? I would definatly prefer as much under $500 as possible so i could do it alone, but if need be my brother and i could go intogether and go up to $500 or so.

Like they said. your looking for a digital slr. these are interchangeable lens cameras. although the jump from point-and-shoot to SLR(single lens reflex, fancy for you see what your lens sees) is not cheap. I use all Canon and in my opinion you cant beat it. this may change from person to person. The thing is that when you buy a certain brand of SLR(canon, nikon, olympous, ect.) you need to stick with it because these lenses are not interchangeable. Ex. if you buy a canon body, a nikon lens will not work. this is why i choose canon, they are the leader in camera lenses. as far as cameras go i would consider the older canon digital rebel XT. you can get it off amazon right now for around $530. That also includes a kit lens which will get you started. Thats also the absolute cheapest brand new SLR i know of. I wouldnt get into used slr unless your buying from a trusted place or individual. this is because slr's have something called a sensor that is exposed to dust every time you take off the lense. if you buy from someone who didnt clean the sensor you will have massive dust build-up that you will have to either clean or replace. I would recomment buying online, amazon is very reliable. that is where i bought mine. I hope your neice decides to move up into the slr range of cameras, its uncompareable to point-and-shoot.

OK, I'm not sure of the prices in US dollars so I'll just give you a list of the best cameras out there. OK. these cameras are Digital SLR's. You change the lenses and take high quality images. I think the Nikon brand is the best. The nikon D200 is the camera I'd recommend but that might break your budget. The D80 is the next camera I'd recommend then the D40x and then the D40. I'd also recommend that you buy it in a shop new. Then you can get it cleaned and looked after. Then lens that comes with the camera should do fine. I included a link below.
Now some people will recommended getting a canon. They are just as good but are not as good value.
What you're looking for is an entry-level digital SLR. Find a camera store and tell them exactly what you're looking for and they will show you what's available. I'm not sure what a Nikon D40 sells for, but it's a nice sturdy entry-level Nikon. Canon would be another good brand. There are cheaper brands, but you get what you pay for, and Nikon and Canon are the best.

She's a junior in high school. I don't know how much experience she has in photography, but I'm wondering if she would be better off getting a regular digital camera. Point-and-shoot cameras today come with a lot of the bells and whistles previously only available on higher-end cameras. On my camera, which I purchased for $250 three years ago, I can use a number of manual settings as well as letting the camera take care of the details. Also, digital cameras still seem to be updating quickly. They now have higher resolution and better optical zoom capacities.
Just my thoughts. I hope she enjoys whatever you get for her.

There are some good 35mm digital cameras you can buy. Here are a few less expensice ones; Nikon D50, D70, D40.
The Nikon D40X is a 10megapixel, better than the 6 Megaixel listed before.

I reccommend getting a 2 gigabyte Scandisk memory card.

But the continued economic downturn -- further drops in the stock market, consumer spending dropping off dramatically, auto sales down and automakers pleading for a bailout, rising unemployment, collapsing oil prices, recessions declared abroad -- has clearly changed his mind.
One of his top economic advisers, Austan Goolsbee, today described the Bush administration as %26quot;dithering%26quot; when it comes to the tanking economy.
Wall Street executives have been telling the Obama team for days that the president-elect needed to send a signal that he is on the case.

i recently purchased nokia 3600 slide. due to good lokking design and 3.2 MP camera. But after 2-3 use i have found it's 3.2 camera is wrost camera that made by nokia between 7000-9000 price tags. picture quality is so poor. no image details. frequenlty hangs if you take 3 or 4 picture continoulsy. voice qulaity is also very poor. speaker is on back side of phone. response time is very slow. please advice me. i need a phone between 7500-8000 with good sound quality and average camera like (nokia 6233,6300)

What changes in law made AR-15 style rifles legal in CA recently?
Earlier this month, I was at a gun show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. I have been to many gun shows, but this one was different. I noticed many AK's, AR's, and even an FNH P-90 with what looked like silencer on it. All of them had price tags on them. I picked up a few of the AR's, and asked the vendors about buying one. They said they were completely legal in CA. I was confused because I was aware of all laws against these types of weapons. According to the gun experts there, they said this new thing called a %26quot;bullet button%26quot; makes them legal. It's a mag release that won't drop the clip without a little tool or a pen. Aside from the evil black listed guns, is this the new thing that makes these guns legal?

The %26quot;Bullet Button%26quot; is not legal in CA despite what you've been told by someone wishing to sell you something. No person or persons in Sacramento (states capital for you okies) have given approval to this design because it skirts the law. Once the Tool is used any magazine including a high cap mag can be inserted and that makes it illegal like it or not. The thing is they (officials) have not prosecuted all that many cases and have been leaving it up to local counties to police their own districts. Don't be fooled by a slick talking salesman they are not legal. Hey and don't get me wrong I think a large portion of gun laws are wrong but but like it or not the Bullet Button isn't legal yet because no official has said it is.
EDIT: You guys gave me thumbs down couldn't be more wrong about what you are saying. The whole point of needing a tool to remove magazine was only meant for cleaning not the ability of rapid reloading by the use of spare magazines. One day the goofs in Sacramento will get off their rear ends and take a stand. Again don't get me wrong I am not in favor of this law or lack of it I just think everyone has the right to know the truth and just because some yahoo has thought of a way to circumvent the spirit of the law does not make it so.

um its a %26quot;magazine%26quot; not %26quot;clip%26quot; and btw bullet button is what it sounds like u use a live round to release magazine..........and it's not that new....been around for a few years.....
To Mr. P: You don't need a law to make something legal, only the absence of a law which makes it illegal.
CA has banned a ton of guns by name. So what people do is buy AR-15 receivers that haven't been banned by name. These are called 'Off List Lowers' because they don't appear on the banned list.
Now, CA also bans guns based on how many 'evil' features they have. You can only have 2 or possibly 3 evil features before the gun is illegal. What people in CA originally did was alter an AR-15 to have a fixed magazine. But of course, half the fun of an AR-15 is being able to quickly pop in a fresh 30 round mag. These first guns were altered in a way you'd need to grab a pliers and a wrench to take a bolt out to get the magazine free.
Now the same technology is being applied, BUT the 'fixed magazine' is designed in such a way that the only tool needed to get the mag out is some pointed doohicky to release a button inside. A bullet tip works fine, but a bent cloths hanger or a nail would work fine too.
Still the law sees it as a 'tool needed to remove' and hence it is still technically a 'fixed magazine'

No person or persons in Sacramento (states capital for you okies) have given approval to this design because it skirts the law. Once the Tool is used any magazine including a high cap mag can be inserted and that makes it illegal like it or not. The thing is they (officials) have not prosecuted all that many cases and have been leaving it up to local counties to police their own districts. Don't be fooled by a slick talking salesman they are not legal. Hey and don't get me wrong I think a large portion of gun laws are wrong but but like it or not the Bullet Button isn't legal yet because no official has said it is.

The whole point of needing a tool to remove magazine was only meant for cleaning not the ability of rapid reloading by the use of spare magazines. To Mr. P: You don't need a law to make something legal, only the absence of a law which makes it illegal.
CA has banned a ton of guns by name. So what people do is buy AR-15 receivers that haven't been banned by name. These are called 'Off List Lowers' because they don't appear on the banned list.
Now, CA also bans guns based on how many 'evil' features they have. You can only have 2 or possibly 3 evil features before the gun is illegal. What people in CA originally did was alter an AR-15 to have a fixed magazine. But of course, half the fun of an AR-15 is being able to quickly pop in a fresh 30 round mag. These first guns were altered in a way you'd need to grab a pliers and a wrench to take a bolt out to get the magazine free.
Now the same technology is being applied, BUT the 'fixed magazine' is designed in such a way that the only tool needed to get the mag out is some pointed doohicky to release a button inside. A bullet tip works fine, but a bent cloths hanger or a nail would work fine too.
Still the law sees it as a 'tool needed to remove' and hence it is still technically a 'fixed magazine'

eh I had DVR for about a year it did come in handy but when times got hard recently and we had to make cutbacks it was the first thing to go, while handy it didn't change my life at all matter of fact it made me spend more time in front of the TV which is bad, not a life saver but could be handy in the right situation i guess

ok so I went to Sprint today to see if I could replace my Razr that fell in water with the exact same phone. I paid $150 for the phone in NC before I moved. I took my phone in and they told me that I will need to pay $400 for the exact same phone. I asked why and they said I couldn鈥檛 get discounts until November of this year, and I can鈥檛 give up my contract until December of NEXT year. I really need a phone, so they told me to call customer service. I called and they said that they shouldn鈥檛 be charging my $400 for a $150 replacement phone. They called the store that I went to, and when I went back in, they changed the price of the phone to $450. The tag says $150, but why should I have to pay now $450? Will they just keep changing the prices every time I go in? It will cost me $200 to cancel my contract and add another $150 to cancel my phone's number. It this crap? Has this happened to anyone else at Sprint? Time to get a new provider?

I'm pretty sure you can't do that. A T1 line is separated into 24 channels, and the provider will simply disable some of those data channels on their end to reduce your bandwidth. This is not something you can 'fix' on your end.
Also, you are correct. A T1 line is typically much slower than an average cable broadband connection from your local ISP. My cable connection is 10 mbps down and 1 mbps up. When I perform a 'speed test', I always get about 9.9 mbps down and 0.8 mbps up. In other words for a lot lot lot less than a T1 line, I'm getting a lot lot more download bandwidth and a similar upload bandwidth.
A T1 is really only suggested for business users who need a guaranteed dedicated connection that is extremely reliable, or if they want to have several digital phone line channels from the telephone company.

I don't know why I get offended when someone talks bad about my favorite handgun, the Glock. The other day I was selling a gun to this dude who had just turned 21, it was his first handgun. He wanted to know more about the Glock and I showed him the Glocks I had. This man who was looking for a Kimber 1911 interrupted our conversation about the Glocks and told the young man %26quot;Son, what you really need is a man's gun. What you need is a Kimber, you don't need that piece of fecal matter (Glock)%26quot;. I didn't say anything to that older man, but I did ask the young man if he wanted to see the Kimber 1911's and I took him to see them. As soon as the young man saw the price tag on the Kimbers, he quickly changed his mind and instead took the Glock home with him that afternoon. If he had purchased either a Kimber or a Glock, either one is an excellent choice of handgun. I just didn't appreciate the negative comments that the other guy made about my favorite handgun, it sort of offended me.

The rapidly changing makeup of the Texas public school classroom poses growing challenges for the state. Impoverished and disadvantaged children are more likely to falter academically and drop out, and educating struggling students can be costly.
“Economically disadvantaged students have needs,” said Sarah Winkler, the president of the Texas Association of School Boards and an Alief school board trustee. “The cost of education is going to go up. Every student has to meet the same standards, and some of those students have never seen a book before.”
To help at-risk students, Winkler said, school districts should focus their resources on preschool programs to try to close the learning gap early, on parent education, on extra tutoring and on smaller class sizes, among other things.
The state's school funding system is set up to pay districts more for their impoverished students, but some believe the extra dollars are not enough.
This year, the price tag is $2.8 billion, according to the TEA. Districts also get additional federal funds.
A special legislative committee is supposed to study school funding before state lawmakers reconvene in 2011, and Rep. Rob Eissler, chairman of the House Public Education Committee, said he expects discussion on the cost of educating at-risk students.

I liked his last one. The one where he got the boot from Ford and overturned Chrysler. Senile because he is old? The man's got heart and courage, and if you compare his senility with Bush's retardation....he still never ran a business into the ground and evidently can still relate to the average thinking people in America. He turned a personal tragedy and a failure into a triumph. I am glad to see he is not just sitting back on his laurels and wasting his days making horse head book ends in his garage or playing golf. Henry Ford inspired this country on a principle that treat the workers good and they will be more productive. A concept that when Iaccoca got canned from Ford was %26quot;old thinking%26quot; and the first new wave of %26quot;new blood Corporate Greed%26quot; reared it's head at Ford. I'm a Christian (aspiring) artist. This is my artist statement and I would love some feedback.
My life has always been governed by little “claims to fame.” Whether it’s art, tennis, my
job, the people I know, or the fact that I can change my own oil- I let these thing defi ne
me. These are all positive things on the surface, but at the core it points to my, and
many people’s struggle with self worth.
As a Christian I am here to tell people that nding our worth in this world will only
lead to an identity other than the one that God has for us; but as an artist I’m here to
point people to the one thing that gives us worth- our creator.
Marc Chagall said, “Art is the increasing e ort to compete with the beauty of owersand
never succeeding. I look at nature and wish that I could create something completely
original, that in comparison, is as beautiful as the world around it, but the best I
can come up with is a simple re-creation.
So why have I chosen to pursue something that can’t be caught? God has placed a
burden on my heart for the people who have never seen the love that He o ers, and
who only nd their worth in vain pleasures, price tags, TV shows, and destinations. My
calling as an artist is simple- to point people to my creator by depicting those splitsecond
moments when God hits me with inspiration. I trust that if I recreate through
truly God-given inspiration, my work will be void of any sel fish agendas and God’s
glory will be presented in an irresistible manner.
The purpose of my show is to depict the process of being cut o from the things that
we use as crutches. This is not some experiment that I’m attempting with the hopes of

Should we bail out the big three?
Henry Ford paid his workers so that they could afford the cars they built. Today's economy is reflective of not only greed but a need for cultural changes. The big three built cars that Americans thought they wanted. Big SUV's with every bell and whistle imaginable. These cars had big price tags and good margins for the auto companies and the gas companies. I think we all need to scale back and begin to realize a culture that should have been developed over the last 20 years instead of the ostentatious one that we have. Not everyone can be rich or should we act like we are. Sure the greed at the top needs to be harnessed, but we all can't keep up with the Jone's. Its just criminal in so many ways that America did not take the advice of those that offered it by way of renewable energy, saving for a rainy day and ignoring the bleeding of manufacturing jobs. All thinking that the time of big cars and big houses had no end and we would live happily ever after. Well think again! I'm for restructuring the auto industry, but not giving them a blank check. Someone has to buy the cars they build. It will take a couple of years to turn that around. So in the meantime? I say support the workers and effectively reduce the overhead for the auto makers until such time as we are consuming the new products. They then pay back the labor money and everyone is happy.

Sounds like a decent read, although most people who are hard-core anime fans would say no to the american-made manga. plus, if she doesn't like it, tell her you'll return it and go with her to find one she likes.

Britax Advocate--anyone have one?
My baby girl is currently 16 lbs 8 oz and 27 inches at 9 months old, so she is still well within the height/weight requirements of her infant seat. However, she is starting to fight, cry, and struggle every time I put her in her infant seat (or lay her down in the infant tub or changing table for that matter). A few friends told me that switching to the convertible seat will help because they can sit up (which is what she wants to do). I'm researching car seats, and it seems like the big kahuna on the market right now is the Britax Advocate. Does anyone have one? If so, what do you think? I drive a Toyota Corolla--do you think it would be too big? Is it really heavy to move between cars (my husband is deployed right now so I would have to move it myself if I choose to drive the other car). The price tag is steep, but I'm not basing my decision off of that because I saved money when I was pregnant for a convertible seat some day. I just want the best possible seat. Also, are the side cushion thingys on the Advocate effected by side curtain air bags on your car? Our Scion xB has side curtain air bags

If it was my only child, and they were going to be sitting in the center position - then no - I wouldn't bother. I would maybe get the boulevard or just a marathon (keep her rear facing as long as possible... this is 75% safer... and actually probably more important then the actual seat she's sitting in... she can rear face to age 2-3 easily)
There are a bunch of seats on the market now with neat features. One is the new Safety 1st AirProtect - it rear faces to 40lbs. The Graco My Ride 65 also rear faces to 40lbs.
As for it being too big - no - the corolla easily fits all the britax seats rear facing - they actually fit better then the infant buckets because you can touch the seat in front of it... you don't need as much room as you do with an infant bucket and the handle down.
I would go to www.car-seat.org - and just look at some of the postings. There are so many seats out there... surf around that site, see what other people have in corolla's, see what's out there.
