Should we see a sweeping reform measure?

Do you agree with more money for the border?

Is obama finally seeing the dangers coming over the border?

How should these trafficers and smugglers be dealt with?

Should more sweeps be completed everywhere?

Stemming the tide of illegal immigrants has been a rallying cry from politicians and private citizens alike for years.

While we've seen additional border agents and crackdowns on employers of illegal immigrants, no sweeping reform measure has dealt sufficiently with the drug traffickers who smuggle in people and drugs, then smuggle out guns and cash under the cover of darkness.

It's time that changes. The growing drug-related violence in Mexico that's starting to spill over into the U.S. makes border security more crucial than ever.

Since January 2008, more than 7,600 people have been killed in drug-related violence in Mexico.

President Barack Obama is asking Congress for $27 billion to double the Department of Homeland Security's funding to combat southbound firearms and currency smuggling and add more than 100 Border Patrol agents and Customs and Border Protection officers.

Part of that spending would go toward hiring additional agents to work with the Mexican government on developing intelligence to better fight the cartels.

While the plan that would be included in next year's budget comes with a hefty price tag — and represents an 8 percent increase over this year's spending — it must be done.

The first step in sound immigration reform is security enforcement. Under President Bush, nearly 670 miles of fence and barriers were erected along the U.S.-Mexico border. Nearly 350,000 immigrants were deported, but still the violence soars.

To be effective, we have to focus our efforts, with increased technology and personnel, on securing the porous borders and halting the flow of guns going south as much as the people coming north.

Obama also wants to spend $112 million to make E-Verify, an employment verification program, more reliable and to get more employers to use it.

As much as we may not want to see increased government spending right now, we must protect our borders — and our citizens — from the all-too-prevalent violence
Should we see a sweeping reform measure?
WOW KIZE - you sure PO'd someone off here LOL and look at her Avatar and she has only been on here a little over a month and look at her #'s.Now that's dedication LOL.I think maybe Obama may be waking up to the fact that WE DO have a illegal problem here in the USA.And I know that we can kill two birds with one stone, that being illegals leaving and more jobs for americans. If he would put into place the NO WELFARE for illegals and their anchor babies then they would leave and more americans can get a job.It would also help us economically since we wont have millions feeding off our already dieing welfare system.Bring in our military and let them protect our borders instead of countries that don't even want us there....
Should we see a sweeping reform measure?
we need more for our borders. all obama has to say is our military is coming home and the illegals will leave. illegals have no rights. anything done illegal is not right.
Pull our military out from the rest of the world and put them on the borders and ports. We can reduce the military from 2.8 million to 1.5 million and still have enough funding for our military to defend our borders. Believe me they are prepared to kill drug smugglers and violent gangs. Plus it will keep a lot of illegal immigrants out of the USA.

That is the job of the military - to defend the country and border patrol is part of national defense.
Obama said it himself that we are at fault for wanting the drugs and supplying the guns which makes the cartels powerful, and that's why he wants to focus on traffic going south, not just the north bound traffic. Great Plan!

Another great thing to ask is this Mexico’s drug war is closing in on becoming Obama’s “Iraq,” a war not so much of choice as one that is integral to our national security.

This is not an exaggeration. In December, Four-Star general (ret.) Barry McCaffrey and former national drug czar said that Mexico is on the verge of becoming a narco-state. An Adjunct Professor of International Affairs at West Point, McCaffrey released a report that predicted Mexico will be in control of the narco gangs within a decade. “Chronic drug consumption in Mexico has doubled since 2002 as has cocaine use, while U.S. cocaine consumption has dropped by 70% in the past two decades. An estimated 5% of the Mexican population now consumes illegal drugs.”

Fully 90% of all U.S. cocaine use transits through Mexico and the country is also a dominant source of methamphetamine production for the U.S. market.
Absolutely. this should have been done a long time ago. We should not have this huge problem with illegals. Secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws!
Not under this administration. If anything -things will get much much worse.

Throwing money at a problem does not make it better - see our schools.

I know an ex- border patrol agent - the hispanics have taken it over.
you are a hillbilly, ignorant, redneck old mean lady!

and obviously not educated!

Dont you know that Immigrants actually benefit the economy, they allow for you to buy your groceries at a cheaper price to feed all your hungry kids

Imagine if everyone working the fields was getting paid exuberant wages, with exuberant health care? Do you think that you will be paying $1.99 for a head of lettuce? well think again lil fat mama, you will be paying twice as much

Not too mention hotels, walmart, and all those companies that are ran by pure illegals?

They get paid nothing, it doesnt affect you, I know more american criminals than illegals. Illegals come here to provide for their family and they dont care how much they make as long as they survive

Ignorant

learn

before you talk. it will affect your life

you will be the same ignorant complaining about %26quot;wanting more immigrants%26quot; Once you start to feel the negative effect if we didnt have them

AMERICA IS A MELTING POT, LAND OF IMMIGRANTS SINCE IT WAS 1ST FORMED!
a) I agree with money going towards hiring more agents, not building the poorly planned fence. More Agents = More Employed Americans.

b) Obama said it himself that we are at fault for wanting the drugs and supplying the guns which makes the cartels powerful, and that's why he wants to focus on traffic going south, not just the north bound traffic. Great Plan!

c) Smugglers and dealers should be dealt with appropriately!

d) NO! more sweeps = more rights violated, more US companies crippled, more American families disturbed, more children left behind and dramatized and not to mention the drama US Citizens go through that work at the same facilities where these sweeps occur.

And with Obama needing to spend another $112 million to make E-Verify more reliable tells us that is was never working right!...........
