Is the $99.95 price tag for Windows XP upgrade version the suggested retail price?

Has anyone ever seen XP upgrade version sold cheaper? Don't mention any online auction sites!! I recently bought XP pro from someone for $40.00, but it was a scam! It was obviously downloaded and made from a file sharing site. The XP Pro cd itself supposedly has a watermark, which is a hologram that supposedly changes when you hold it up to the light. The cd I got is obviously a cd label made with an inkjet printer. There is no hologram, and the installation is full of errors. The most damning evidence is that when connecting to the microsoft website to get validation, it gives me the error saying that the product key is not valid. So i'm going to a store and buying the upgrade version. I wish i could find the full version for a cheaper price than $200.00, because i would rather have a fresh installation, but for now i'll just attempt an upgrade over this win98se installation i'm currently using.
