Sickening :( A person is reselling a puppy he got from an SPCA at a price higher than the adoption fee!!!?

This morning I read an ad of a person selling a 7 m.o. goldendodle he got from a shelter last week in $950 just because the dog was too big for his child. I wrote him asking why the price was so high and he answered that this dogs could cost more than $1000 and that this was already neutered and had the shots. He also told me that the shelter fee was $600. The sad part is that I read the shelter's page and I'm sure that the neutering and the shots were covered in the adoption fee, so the guy was trying to earn $350 out of this poor puppy. I think this shelter failed in the adopter screen and they fail by not scheduling post adoption visits. I was thinking of writing to the shelter but I'm afraid; moreover, I read the ad again and the guy changed the 950 tag for negotiable.

Contact the shelter. Chances are, he signed some sort of contract (whether it's enforceable, that's another story) that if for whatever reason an adopter cannot keep the pet, it MUST be returned to the shelter. And if this guy is selling the dog, he's definitely in violation of the contract. A lot of the 'better' shelters (aka: better funded) also microchip all pets that are adopted out of the shelter.

The irony is that a potential buyer would be buying a shelter rescue....

You really need to call the shelter, ASAP. This is not right at all and the shelter needs to know this.
Why are you scared of writing or calling the shelter??
It's disappointing if he's trying to make a profit, but at least he's trying to find a new home for the dog instead of dumping it back at the shelter.
I agree - that is disgusting!
call the spca and tell them or even may i say it the police

hope that helped
I think at some shelters that's illegal. I know the one I just got my puppy from, you specifically sign a contract saying that you will not sell the dog for higher than how much you adopted it for.

I hate people like that. I think the kid and the pup are the sufferers in this.
It is not right. I am glad you noticed, and i think you should tell the SPCA.
call the shelter if u no the name of it
That guy is a real piece of work! call the shelter to make sure that he never buys another puppy just to turn around and sell!
Call the shelter and report this guy. Most contracts forbid that and maybe they can confiscate the animal for breach of contract and them find him a real home.
in most shelters contracts it states that the adopter MUST bring the pet back to the shelter if they can no longer keep it.

CALL the shelter immediately
Why not call the shelter and talk to them. Hopefully the Shelter has a policy to eliminate behavior like this. If not maybe they can incorporate one to prevent this in the future.

I do think it would be helpful if you contacted the Shelter to see if you could do anything.

It is probably better for the pup to get placed with somebody else. It sounds like this guy really is not a good home. Hopefully the pup will go to somebody who really loves and wants the pup as a companion and not a price tag.

See what you can do. After all...as I have said before...

One person CAN make a difference. Good for you!
I still think you should write to the shelter, personally.

That's just my opinion, because I think that it's horrible how he gets a dog, later finds out it's 'too big' for his child and is trying to resell it for that much. It is a living creature, and it deserves to live in a place where he/she is wanted.

The poor dog needs a home, and it is unfair that he/she is being sold for such a high price. Animals are here to be treated fairly, not to get a profit out of.
i think its pretty reasonable he took care of this dog for a while and gave him shots and neutered it
Call the shelter and report the SOB, and I don't mean the goldendoodle. He ought to have returned the dog when he realized he couldn't care for it.

Also, rest assured that while the man wants to sell the dog, and people sell dogs all the time, what he asks for it and what he receives will be two entirely different figures.
its a sad thing, but I am not sure that is illegal to do, [though morally, its a sad statement about this person]once he paid and got the dog, if there were no rules about not reselling, a dog is not a family member per se, its property.

check with the shelter to see what their rules are about this.
Call the ASPCA/shelter right away! Most adoption contracts don't allow this. If he gives up this dog, he has to give it back to the ASPCA, it's certain to be in his contract. He has no right to do this. Please call the ASPCA and tell them what you found out; they will take the dog back and place him in a home where someone will keep him.
What I want to know is why is a tax-operated shelter charging $600 a dog? And they claim it isn't a profit business? Goodness! Breeders in this area charge less.
Find out which shelter he got the dog from. Call them and let them what he's doing. When a dog adopted out from a shelter - any shelter - the adopter signs something stating that they are the ones that will take care of the dog for the rest of its life. If some situation comes up where they can no longer keep the dog they must return it to the shelter.

Tell him you're really interested and just get as much info as you can. Find out about when, which shelter. Then see if you can get his address so you can come see the dog. Give all this info to the shelter. Remain anonymous and they'll go after him and get this dog back. Don't be afraid - you'll be doing a really good deed.
Who is to say that he doesn't have 350 in care of the animal? I have bought animals from shelters before and to be quite honest the cost of getting a shelter animal %26quot;house ready%26quot; does add up quick. Most shelters only provide the very first shot, so you have to figure getting the rest of the shots, Not to mention home much it can cost to get rid of Fleas and MOST shelter dogs are COVERED in fleas. To me it sounds like he is trying to get what he has invested back out of the animal which is reasonable, Now if he went and Bought it and the immediately put an ad in to sell it the same day yes that is wrong. But i am afraid there really isn't anything you can do calling the shelter will do you no good Once the animal is property of the owner he can do with it what he likes including selling it for a higher price.
Call the shelter and alert them Almost all shelters have a contract saying that if the original adopter can't keep the dog, it MUST go back to the sheltere. I even do this for my own puppies, as well as my rescues. This person is most likely in breach of contract.
you need to call the shelter asap!!! that guy is such a *****!!!
