No receipts in Egypt?

My sister went to Egypt and was not given receipts when she bought stuff. She was told that no one there does. Price tags were also lacking which would make me uneasy cause the prices keep changing. Is this correct and what is the reason? It makes it impossible to make baggage claims/complaints because the travel insurance people want to see receipts of items purchased while on the trip.

Thanks for your help.
No receipts in Egypt?
It depends on where you shop. If you go to a major supermarket I'm sure that you will get a receipt, however if you're a tourist, which I think you are, then you probably go shopping at all the tourist locations and souks, where you will not get a receipt.

The concept of a receipt in Egypt is a little unrealistic particularly because in tourist souks they operate with cash only transactions. Returning items to those stores are also unrealistic... therefore there is no sense in using receipts.
No receipts in Egypt?
LOL No, there is no such thing as receipts in Egypt except in big supermarkets or stores like that. Most stores, however, are just like bizaars.

In Egypt almost all prices are negotiable, therefore, since there isn't a final price on everything you can't necessarily have reciepts or price tags.

Good luck :D
no receipts in egypt!! thats not true.. almost all stores in egypt give receipts, they might not be detailed or like showing every item, but at least they give you a receipt with the amount of money you paid .unless it is like a small store that sells candy and stuff

also, each store has a different policy, so you should ask before buying. some of them allow returns others do not!!
Egypt is a third world country, I think the problem is one of the smaller problems in Egypt and I do not think it deserves to find a solution there are other things worse than this .......
Most of the places in Egypt give receipts. If any places don't then she shouldn't buy from them.
I have to agree with NONO .. WHAT DO U MAN NO RECEIPTS ???

all proper shops give them , very few don't... ur sis. just might have been to one of those , today almost every one will have to give them because of the new laws of taxation , and the new %26quot;return or exchange within 14 days %26quot; policy
you dont get bills unless you ask for them .. and if you ask for them you will sound suspicious to the sellers . and they wont sell you stuff.

its the way the world works around here. unless you really NEED the reciepts , never mind about it ;)
Totally agree with mez4prez.

It depends on when you go shopping. But we can't go as far as saying that receipts are not given in Egypt!
