Does anyone know a freeware that can do data/partition recovery?

While shrinking my Vista partition, another partition containing data is damaged. The NTFS file system now became RAW. Is there a data/partition recovery software that can change RAW file system back to NTFS? I know Easeus has one product called Data Recovery Wizard that can have the job done. But the $70 price tag is too expensive for me. Hope there is a freeware somewhere that can also do the same job. Thanks.

Download and burn Ubuntu 9.04 to a CD-R. It has a partition manager that works with all file system formats and is far more reliable than a Windows program.

In Windows you have to have the OS booted and running to run the partition manager program of any choice other than those you boot from. This is a VERY dangerous operation to perform on a mounted and active partition. Ubuntu is a Linux OS that boots and runs entirely from the CD and makes no changes to your system unless you tell it to. The partition manager will be able to reformat to NTFS, but recovering a corrupted partition table is a MUCH MUCH harder endeavour that is best left to a professional.

Just so happens I offer data recovery services for a fraction of the price of the big companies. I'm driven by a love of logic and computers, not profit demands.
um theres a built in recovery wizard in vista its in the accessories under system it should be called system restore or something
